PS Plus July 2024 lineup surprises with 8% increase in active PS5 players

Our exclusive Number of PS Plus players July 2024 shows a surprising increase in the number of PS5 and PS4 players checking out the monthly PlayStation Plus July 2024 game lineup. While it’s not a massive increase in player attention, we’re still surprised because most of that interest from subscribers was focused on the cheapest PS Plus game of 2024.

Using a sample of game data from over 3.1 million active PSN accounts (courtesy of our partnership with GameInsights), we’ve been keeping track of the number of debuting players for every PS5 and PS4 game available through PS Plus Essential. This includes the July 2024 PS Plus games lineup Border countries 3, EA Sports NHL 24AND Between us.
Compared to the number of PS Plus players in June 2024, July 2024 PS Plus monthly games saw 8.5% more active PS5 and PS4 players checking them out on their keyboard of choice. This means that the July lineup was also played more than the April and February games, making it the fourth highest performing month for PS Plus games this year.

The success of the July 2024 line-up is largely due to its top-performing game, Between us — AKA the cheapest game Sony has added to PS Plus in five years. Despite this, the PS Plus player count of Among Us was 21.15% higher than EA Sports NHL 24, the second best performing game this month. She also saw 46% players more active than Border countries 3the worst performing game from the July lineup.

Still, the fact that the game was popular enough to pull off July’s performance over three other monthly PS Plus lineups — despite costing as much as $4.99 on the PS Store — is a little surprising. Between us it’s also free on iOS and Android, so it feels even more surprising that players were lured by the PS5 and PS4 version of the game.

This shows that PS Plus subscribers may not be all that interested in the tangible value of their subscription price as long as they ultimately get the games they want. Between us it might not be the best use of your PS Plus investment, but it’s still a game that PS5 and PS4 players wanted to play more than most of the PS Plus games offered this year.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that any of the games we got this month qualify for our best PS Plus games list, but we can at least admit that subscribers seem a bit more interested in the July lineup than the June.
