The 48-hour Amazon Prime Day sales event begins at 3am ET/12pm PT on Tuesday, July 16th and ends on Wednesday, July 17th. This is Amazon’s 10th Prime Day event. While the company hasn’t revealed exactly how many items will be available for sale, millions of items have been snapped up with great deals averaging 40% off in past years.
Amazon starts with early deals on its products and some early Prime Day deals can be bought right now. The number of categories that will have offers has not yet been announced; however, you can expect deals from a wide range of categories during the main Prime Day event, including major TV brands, Smart Home devices, Fashion, Beauty & Wellness, Furniture, Pet Supplies, Tools, Fitness Equipment and more a lot.

How to work the deals. Be quick!
Prime Day deals can expire in minutes, and some deals end when inventory runs out. Within the Prime Day event are three different promotions:
1) Spotlight offers: These are usually larger and more expensive items that are available for a limited time.
2) Offers of the day with gold boxes: These are smaller, less expensive items that are available for a limited time.
3) Lighting offers: These are the most popular types of Prime Day deals. They are usually in very limited quantities of products and only last for a few minutes.
I rank these in order from least urgent to most urgent. Lighting deals almost always offer the best prices and last for a short time or when they go on sale, sometimes just a few minutes. Although it may seem like a deal is over, a tip below can provide an easy solution to getting the deal anyway.

How to share an Amazon Prime membership
You can share your Amazon Prime membership with another adult in your Amazon household. You and your guest must be adults and agree to link your accounts through Amazon Household and agree to share payment methods. This means you’ll have access to each other’s payment methods, so you should only share your Prime membership with someone you trust. The person you share your Prime membership with will get the same Amazon Prime benefits as you at no extra cost. Both adults will keep their own accounts while sharing Prime benefits. To do this, once you’re signed in, add that person to Amazon Household by following these steps.

My battle plan tips for the main 6 days
1) Create a wishlist on Amazon: Put everything you buy regularly throughout the year, such as dog food, light bulbs, basic goods, etc. Add in upcoming birthdays and big-ticket items you’ve been putting off buying and make your holiday list for Christmas gifts well ahead of time while saving big.
2) “Join the waiting list” for sold products you want and lost: Think it’s sold out? Maybe no. Items placed in another buyer’s cart expire if not purchased within 15 minutes. If you are on the waiting list, you may be notified that the deal is yours.
3) Download the Amazon smartphone or tablet app to see offers first: The app shows deals that come first and lets you create a “Watch this deal” list to be notified when a deal is going live.
4) Say “Alexa, what are your deals?” for exclusive offers: You can use this form of audio bidding by saying “Alexa, next” as described to move to the next deal. Shopping by voice is a total hassle, and Amazon knows it. That is why they are tempting us to try it with even better offers that you can find on the site.
5) Compare prices at other retailers: Check out prices on brands like BestBuy, Walmart, Kohl’s and Target, as many other sources are taking advantage of the first-day excitement.
6) Shop safely online: Make sure your internet connection is secure and be careful phishing attempts. Always buy directly through the official Amazon site or app. The best way to protect yourself from clicking on malicious links that install malware that can access your private information is to have strong antivirus protection installed on all your devices. This can also alert you to any phishing emails or ransomware scams. Get my picks for the best antivirus protection 2024 winners for your Windows, Mac, Android and iOS devices.

Beware of these Prime Day loss disasters
- AVOID Unknown brands which can often disappoint
- AVOID Fake reviews using fakespot.com. Instead of adding their browser extension, just connect to the search field to copy and paste a list of Amazon products. Fakespot will analyze the results to show a letter grade and explanation. The goal is to eliminate fake reviews and identify troubled listings.
- AVOID paying more by checking the history of lower prices IN camelcamelcamel.com. A price history for almost every Amazon item is recorded here to show if you’re getting the lowest price.
- AVOID Amazon Assistant browser plugin for privacy concerns. While Amazon’s browser plug-in can make it convenient to compare items and track down deals, it also comes at a cost to your privacy in the way it can track your web browsing activity.
