Limited Run Games reveals four PS1 games for PS5 and PS4
Purveyor of retro game re-releases, recently revealed Limited Run Games four new PS1 games coming to PS5 and PS4 in 2025 at its LRG3 2024 showcase. Last year, the publisher excited us with five PS1 ports of PS5 trophies to be released throughout 2024, so it’s not too surprising to see them pull the same magic trick this year.
Just like last time, these new PS1 ports for PS5 and PS4 will use Limited Run Games’ Carbon Engine, which allows these classic titles to implement modern features like trophy support. Check out all four PS1 games coming to PS5 and PS4 with trophy support below!
Tomb 2
- When available, you can find those Tomba 2 trophies here
- PS5 Release Date: TBA 2025
- Genre: Platformer
We are very close to the launch Tomb 1 on PS5 and PS4 on Monday, August 1, 2024, so why not start building hype for the sequel now? Tomb 2 Return of the Evil Pig was originally released in the West on the PS1 in 2000 and was relatively well received.
Critical feedback focused mainly on the fact that it was a little too similar to the original Tomb, but honestly, it’s hard to see that as criticism today. both Tomb AND Tomb 2 are an absolute joy to play, mixing 2D platform action with some clever 3D lane-switching tricks.
There are some innovative RPG elements here that are way ahead of their time as well, so be sure to give both games a shot when they release on PS5 and PS4!
The effect of fear
- When available, you can find those Fear Effect trophies here
- PS5 Release Date: TBA 2025
- Genre: Action Adventure
Tragically, The effect of fear The franchise name has seen some tough love as 2018 saw the highly anticipated third game in the series released on PS4 to brutal critical reception. So it looks like the series champions are going back to the beginning and releasing the original PS1 game on PS5 and PS4 this time around.
Originally released on the PS1 in 2000, The effect of fear was a stunning showcase of what cinematic adventure games could look like on the PlayStation. While the controls may suffer by today’s standards, this classic definitely still has plenty of strong points thanks to its expert direction and beautifully shaded art style.
Here’s hoping we get a platinum trophy to unlock when this launches on PS5 and PS4, because that’s just the incentive we need to experience this PS1 gem again.
Fighting Force and Fighting Force 2
both Fighting force and its continuation Fighting force 2 were developed for the PS1 by Core Design – the studio behind the first Tomb raider the games. With the studio having so many 3D gaming origins on the PS1, gamers expected tremendous success from Fighting force the games.
Instead, what they got was quite a mixed bag. First Fighting force was a basic 3D beat ’em that lacked the flair and charisma of earlier examples of the genre such as Capcom’s The final battle. Then the developers mixed in the shooting mechanics for Fighting force 2which made it play like a less exciting version of Sony Siphon filter.
So it’s safe to say that bringing both games together for it Assembling the Fighting Forces it won’t make the most exciting recaps of PS1 games on PS5 and PS4. Still, there’s a lot to love about reviewing these Core Design titles today, so we’re still looking forward to giving them another go in 2025.
