The First Descendant is a new free-to-play epic that has just arrived on consoles. It has quickly gained a huge player base and has a lot for fans to look forward to between now and the end of the year. While players are mostly enjoying the core TFD experience, a lot First Descendant fans are divided on whether Nexon should add a controversial option to punish bad players.
As mentioned, there is a lot to anticipate with TFD between now and the end of the year. The First Descendant’s 2024 roadmap reveals all new upcoming content, including the release date window for the new playable character, Luna. Additionally, the developers have confirmed the upcoming addition of matchmaking for Operation Public Infiltration (Dungeon) on hard mode
It’s clear that the developer is listening to feedback from fans in an effort to better improve the game. One of the biggest concerns within the community is bad players, and fans are divided on whether Nexon should add a hit voting option.
First Descendants fans divided on strike vote option
On The First Descendant subreddit, user 2Bord_ created a post titled, ‘I take it back, make an option to strike the vote.’ In the post, the OP explained that they were originally against implementing the strike vote, but they changed their minds “because holy f**k there are so many AFKing furries”.
Farming for Blair’s components all day, the OP said they encountered “afKing leechers almost every run”. The OP elaborated, “They move a little every now and then, or fire randomly once, so they don’t run out of AFK. I understand that Story dungeons are long and tedious, but it would be 200x faster if you could help, instead of AFKing.”
AFKing players have been a huge problem within the community. In response, one user asked, “I don’t understand why people fall for games like this, isn’t the whole point of fighting?”, to which another user simply explained, “You get the same rewards as everyone else. others even if people are buying quest rewards and not random ones from enemies”.
While few in the comments are in favor of voting to kick, many responses are strongly against the option because “It’s always used in toxic ways.” Fans argue that the kick vote would be used “more often to kick people for the character they play or their level or build than to kick actual AFK people”.
In the comments, comparisons are made to Helldivers 2. The Arrowhead shooter does not have a hit vote system, but the host is able to hit players, resulting in many complaints that said system is being abused by toxic hosts.
As for how to fix the dilemma with AFK players, one user said that Nexon “just needs to add some afk controls like button prompts, movement controls, or enemy damage controls. This and implement the AFK reports”. Another user suggested, “Let’s just tag user afk. If they don’t move after 10, they are kicked out.”
In addition to the ideas above, players have suggested that Nexon should follow in Warframe’s footsteps. According to reviews, you don’t get rewards for rounds you AFK a lot in Warframe, which results in a much better and fairer player experience.
