Elden Ring sales up 467% on Shadow of the Erdtree I Monthly UK Charts release

2.53 million console and PC games were sold in June in the UK, a drop of almost 14% compared to a year earlier, GSD data reveals.

June 2023 was particularly busy with the launch of Diablo IV, Final Fantasy 16, F1 23 and Street Fighter 6, while June 2024 has been considerably quieter.

EA Sports FC 24 tops the charts. It’s a strong June performance for EA’s soccer game, which has no doubt benefited from the European Championship competition taking place in Germany right now.

The best-selling new game in June this year was F1 24, which comes in at number 3 on the podium. It’s a somewhat disappointing launch for the EA racer, with its opening five weeks down 44% compared to F1 23’s launch.

Elden Ring climbs 19 places on the charts with 467% month-on-month sales. The FromSofware and Bandai Namco game received new extended DLC Shadow of the Erdtree at the end of the month, which has given the base game a significant boost.

Elsewhere, coming in at number 14 is Nintendo’s Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD. The game may have entered the Top Ten, but Nintendo doesn’t share digital data with the charts, so its position is based only on physical game sales. The game was only released at the end of the month.

A big month for DualSense

Console sales fell slightly in June, falling 9% over the same period in 2023, with just under 99,000 game consoles sold (GfK panel data).

All three platforms saw a slight decline, with the PS5 still comfortably leading the market (selling more than the other two platforms combined). The Nintendo Switch slips to No. 3 this month, narrowly edged out by the Xbox Series S and X, with both platforms broadly neck-and-neck year-to-date.

The UK console sector has fallen 29% in unit terms this year and 31% in revenue. This is caused by several factors, including a very strong first half of the year for the PS5 in 2023 when the console returned to stock (making it a difficult year-over-year comparison), plus the age of the Nintendo Switch, which is now in its eighth year on the market.

Meanwhile, on accessories, 655,000 of these products were sold through UK retail last month (GfK data). That’s a 16% jump over the same period in 2023. This was driven by some strong PS5 DualSense promotions, with the entire Top Four made up of the controller (Midnight Black at No.1, White at No.2 , Cosmic Red at No. 3 and Starlight Blue at No. 4). The average selling price of the controller was £10 lower in June compared to May.

GfK boss Dorian Bloch revealed that as many additional DualSense controllers have been sold as PS5 units, meaning the average PS5 customer has an extra pad.
