What will we all be playing this weekend?

Yesterday I played badminton. Now I’m incredibly sore all over. It made me realize that, perhaps more than anything else you can say about them, weekends are meant to hurt. Going to sleep, waking up covered in pain, making noise like someone three times your age when you get out of bed, and then pretending to be a third your actual age by doing nothing but playing games for 48 the next few hours. Here’s how we’ll spend it!

I want to play something with big robots in it. I’m in a big robot mood. Mechwarrior 5? Very same. In violation? Very small. Armored Core VI? Over thirty-five pounds. Maybe I’ll pick a funny anime to watch instead.

I’m going to the Lake District for a week with some friends, so I’ll be walking over lush grass and heavy mud more than staring at a screen and twiddling my thumbs. However, I will bring my deck and maybe play in the evening before hitting the sack. I’m thinking a little more Until then, a visual novel game I’ve been meaning to write about properly, but I need a little more time. It’s a good thing folks.

Ever indecisive, I’ll be splitting my time this weekend between Zenless Zone Zero and a review game that, shhh, I can’t screw up. I’ve also belatedly gotten into Void Stranger, which is “a fun Sokoban-inspired dungeon crawler” in the same way that an anglerfish is a “soothing source of underwater light.”

Graham
Fall Guys, Minecraft and Dune Imperium. As always.

Readers, I have to admit that I might really like the Elden Ring. Don’t tell any of this too much though, I’ve already made a lot of pointless Slack comments about it.
[Editor’s note: fuckin’ knew it.]

I should probably try to beat more Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree bosses this weekend, though it looks like there won’t be much gaming time since my mother-in-law is visiting. One of the weekend days will also be spent playing the biggest game of all: life admin! Could my wife and I be successful in booking a cheap Air B&B for an upcoming trip to the United States? We’ll roll the dice and see what happens…

I have some time to rest and recover from the madness of the release of Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree. To celebrate, I think I’ll play more Shadow Of The Erdtree. I know it sounds a little silly, but I’m so close to finishing it now and it would be rude not to really.

Quite strange, Hades. Not even Hades 2. I thought I’d go back and finally have a good time with the first one. I… think it’s probably more charming than it is actually fun to play. Don’t hate me! The characters, art, music, and extra touches are … well, they’re Supergiant. They are not lacking in these things. But I’m finding that some encounters just don’t work for certain types of builds, which makes me worry about rounding out toolkits instead of having as much fun experimenting as I’d like. Also, some of the weapons feel like they needed a little more love. Seeing you, bow down. Otherwise, I have a game to review on my list. I hope it’s not a secret, because otherwise I’m just putting my foot in my mouth.

My Saturday is reserved for meeting my girlfriend’s parents for the first time. After something so stressful, I think I’ll relax on Sunday by playing a bit of Civ 6, which I’ve recently returned to after a few years of jumping between Humankind, Old World and Age Of Wonders IV. I’ve realized that I don’t really care about getting good at 4X games. I just want the journey, the discovery, the wonder. This is also why I tend not to finish long Civ games, because all that awesomeness disappears at the end of the game. Who knows though, maybe this time will be different. I won’t. But it can.

But you, dear reader, what are you playing this weekend?
