Features of Samsung’s new smart ring have reportedly been leaked early ahead of the blockbuster Galaxy launch next week.
Samsung’s latest innovative technology is set to impress potential buyers with the jewelery able to track the wearer’s stress levels, detect snoring and even measure skin temperature.
The small silver device is expected to be publicly unveiled for the first time at Samsung Unpacked on July 10 in Paris – with many looking to the ring as the future of wearable technology.
The Korean electronics giant will launch the Galaxy Ring later this year.
Images of the ring were first released via a teaser in February.
It looks like a man’s wedding ring with a metal outside and a black inside ring with sensors that monitor your body’s daily health.
The Galaxy Ring will be able to do a number of smart things through its array of sensors, say tech moguls Android Authority.
Similar to most other fitness devices, the ring will measure users’ heart rate and stress levels.
Both key pieces of data can easily be found on Samsung health application which is compatible with the ring.
Daily figures will be displayed in the possible form of a bar graph with the app showing you where your levels fall compared to previous days.
In order to activate the stress and heart rate monitors, users will simply have to sit still while holding the ring and click the measure.
Samsung has also tried to ensure that the ring stands out from what is available in the highly competitive tech market.
A trio of additional features are said to come with the fitness tracker, including skin temperature measurement, snoring detection and for women their periods forecast.
Some of the stats will require a phone to load data from the ring – similar to Samsung watches.
Ring and hour will make up the collection of devices in Samsung Health.
Hon Pak, Samsung’s vice president and head of the digital health team, said the health app has about 64 million monthly active users.
Pak also hopes that first-time buyers will not only look to buy the ring when it’s more available, but also pair it with a watch.
He added: “I want the ability to have other forms of clothing to measure health.
“And some want to wear the watch, some want to wear the watch and the ring and benefit from both. Some just want more.”
Samsung may have tough competition on the horizon from its biggest rival in Apple.
Recent reports claim that the mega tech company is working on its own smart ring device.
The US-based company filed a patent for “a wearable electronic ring” in 2019, and little has been known about it since then.
But a new report from Korean outlet ET news suggests that Apple may develop the ring for release in the near future.
A Samsung spokesperson said: “We strive to provide our wearables with the best, most intuitive consumer experiences, and we think the best way to do that is within the Android ecosystem.”
Interestingly enough, Samsung has announced that the ring will not be compatible with Apple products such as the iPhone.
